Don’t be fooled by poor quality home staging
Home staging is in vogue to help homeowners sell their homes faster and for a better price. Professional home stagers work with sellers to make their homes as attractive to potential buyers as possible. They know how to highlight the strengths of the home their clients are selling and how to show the property’s potential to buyers.
Home staging goes beyond cleaning, de-cluttering, and decorating. It comprises careful styling and upgrading of a home’s visual appeal. A perfectly staged home can have a very strong impact on buyers, impressing them and helping them feel this is a home they can see themselves in. “I see many home sellers confuse staging with decorating and consequently resisting the process and the recommendations of the staging professional. But the reality is that the moment you commit to marketing your home for sale, you need to commit to transforming your home into a place that potential buyers can easily picture as their home. This means that you need to be prepared to emotionally detach.” says Anthony.
Spring has finally arrived here in Chicago, and I am happy to say that I am halfway finished with a major move… my personal version of a good spring cleaning! For years I have had far too much square footage and far too many things. I have long enjoyed the pleasures that a freestanding home provides, but lately I have had other interests occupying my time (like renovating a really big boat) and I decided that it might be time to free myself of some lifelong clutter and downsize to a condo lifestyle.
While I will admit there have been some strong emotions involved in saying goodbye to many of my favorite possessions and closing the door on this chapter, I will also admit that there is a great sense of fun and excitement in being my very own interior design client for the first time in years!
“There’s an axiom among some real estate agents that when it snows in March, it’s time to call ‘gently’ graying past clients and suggest that now is the time to buy a condominium.”

Ever go to the store and ask the guy for a gallon of white paint, only to find that it looks horrible once you put it on your walls at home? Did it end up looking pink, yellow or green, or worse blindingly white? There are as many shades of white, as there are colors, and you need to know how to navigate the color spectrum when it comes to using white paint for interior walls. White reads differently, depending on the sunlight that a room receives and the time of day, much In the same way that a body of water changes color depending on the reflection of the sun and sky.
Swapping out your incandescent lightbulbs for LEDs has several benefits. These include saving money on your electric bill, superior light quality, less impact on the environment and replacing bulbs once every decade or two instead of every few months.
But shopping for LEDs can be a dizzying experience. Aside from the bevy of bulb shapes to choose from, there are terms such as lumens and Kelvin. On top of that, there’s a seemingly endless array of light types and colors, such as daylight, warm white… it all can be overwhelming. Chicago Interior Designer Anthony Michael talks about LED lighting, and why he insists on it for his client projects, especially now that LED lights are dimmable!
If you’re thinking of making the switch, here are Anthony’s suggestions of what you should know about LEDs and selecting the best replacements.
